Microfiber Cloth to the Rescue… Ways to Maintain and Care for Your Wooden Furniture

Microfiber Cloth to the Rescue… Ways to Maintain and Care for Your Wooden Furniture

When we use the correct methods, cleaning furniture becomes an easy household task. Furniture pieces can be made from different materials, and to clean them effectively, we must follow specific instructions.

Laminated furniture

Laminated furniture is made from synthetic materials, sometimes resembling wood. But, unlike wood or veneer furniture, laminated furniture is cheaper, lighter, and more resistant to dirt or scratches.

Dust removal: Use a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with warm water, then wipe off any moisture with a dry cloth.

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, as it can penetrate the structure, causing the furniture to swell or deteriorate.
  • Commercial sprays and polishing solutions will not have an effect on this type of furniture, as the material is non-porous and will not absorb these substances.

Cleaning stains and dirt: To clean stains or other types of dirt, use a cloth soaked in warm water with a few drops of mild detergent.

  • Avoid using strong degreasers and harsh solutions, such as chlorine-based products or abrasive solutions, as they can damage the laminated surface over time.

Veneer furniture

Veneer furniture is made from a thin layer of natural wood applied over a synthetic or lower-quality wood substrate. This type of furniture combines the elegant appearance of natural wood with a more affordable cost and increased durability.

Dust removal: Use a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with warm water. Wipe in the direction of the wood grain to avoid scratches. After using the damp cloth, follow up with a dry cloth to remove any remaining moisture.

Cleaning stains and dirt: Use a cloth soaked in warm water and a few drops of chlorine-free detergent. Gently wipe the affected area, avoiding excessive rubbing, which could damage the veneer layer.

  • Avoid using strong detergents or abrasive products, as they can damage the furniture’s finish.
  • Use coasters and placemats to prevent scratches or stains.

Solid wood furniture

Solid wood furniture is appreciated for its durability and natural beauty. Compared to other types of furniture, solid wood requires careful maintenance to preserve its appearance.

Dust removal: For this type of furniture, you can use sprays and polishing products, but it is not recommended to use them often, as residue can accumulate in the wood’s grooves or porous surface. If you don’t want to use commercial solutions, you can use a damp cloth to remove dust, followed by a dry cloth to wipe away excess moisture.

Cleaning stains and dirt: If a sticky layer of dirt has accumulated, you can prepare a cleaning solution using a cup of water and a little white vinegar or soap.

MDF furniture

MDF furniture has become increasingly popular due to its appearance and the variety of models.
However, like any other furniture, it requires proper cleaning and care.

Dust removal: Whether we have matte, glossy, or veneered MDF furniture, we always use a soft microfiber cloth to avoid scratching the surface. If we use a damp cloth, we always follow up with a dry cloth.

Cleaning stains and dirt: If we have matte MDF furniture, we can use a soft cloth and solutions specifically for matte surfaces, for maintenance.
In the kitchen, for example, if we have glossy MDF furniture, fingerprints and grease marks can be wiped with a soft damp sponge and a little dish detergent. Afterward, wipe with a microfiber cloth dampened with warm water, then dry with a dry cloth.

No results.
