How Do We Correctly Store Food in the Freezer?

Storing food in the freezer is essential to prevent waste and ensure the quality of the food is preserved.
Here are some tips for proper storage:

  • Use proper packaging: To ensure the food is protected, choose durable bags with a perfect seal. Before sealing, remember to remove as much air from the bags as possible.
  • Labeling: To keep track of which foods should be consumed first, write on the package the type of food and the date it was frozen. For better organization, keep recently frozen foods in the back and older ones in the front.
  • Divide into portions: To make cooking easier, freeze food in individual portions. This way, you can thaw only what you need, more easily and quickly.
  • Blanching: Before freezing, vegetables and some fruits like apricots or peaches should be submerged for 2-3 minutes in boiling water, then in cold water to stop the cooking process. The purpose of blanching is to destroy the enzymes that can cause loss of color, texture, and flavor during freezing.
Berries, strawberries, pineapple, mango, or papaya can be frozen normally: cleaned, washed, cut, dried, and then placed in freezer bags.
